Girl Scout Troop 4014 came bearing gifts, lighting up the lights, setting up the tree and spreading the holiday spirit at the shelter on Dec. 3. Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies Inc. welcomed the team of Girl Scouts and moms who volunteered to set up the tree and decorate with festive lights and colorful bulbs. They came with gifts of baby blankets, varieties of hot chocolate mixes, bags of coffee beans and their fun spirited generosity. The atmosphere was filled with industrious teamwork, creative wiring and the aroma of cookies and hot chocolate which lingered with their bright spirit, long after they finished their task.
We are grateful to Ruby Steedle, Megan McAllister, Jetta Whittaker, Judy McAllister, Ali Hiley, Adriana Botelho and Gail Ford. The AWARE's staff, volunteers and especially the women and children who are currently residing in our emergency safe shelter appreciate the initiative of Girl Scout Troop 4014. Reaching out to uplift others is the heart of community, and it is the spirit by which much of AWARE's mission is accomplished. Proactive, caring, involved community members are key to our work of providing safe shelter and supportive services for women and children who have been subjected to domestic or sexual violence. We strive to engender respect and empowerment for all. The Girl Scouts (and their mothers) exemplify the spirit of good citizenship.
