Man shot outside Anchorage nightclub

Posted: Sunday, December 13, 2009

ANCHORAGE - A suspect in an early morning shooting has been charged with assault, weapons misconduct, resisting arrest and evidence tampering.

Thirty-five-year-old Eric Suggs was arrested just before 2 a.m. Friday and charged with wounding 27-year-old Joseph Brown Jr.

Witnesses told police that Suggs and Brown's cousin, Louis Spencer, argued in a parking area west of Chilkoot Charlie's nightclub and Brown intervened, making gestures like he wanted to fight. Suggs and other witnesses told police they saw a knife in Spencer's hand.

Police say Suggs pulled out a gun and fired, striking Brown in the arm and stomach, and fled on foot.

Police said Brown's wounds were not life-threatening.
