City library's oldest branch closes

Posted: Monday, December 13, 2010

ANCHORAGE - The oldest branch in the Anchorage library system has closed.

The branch in the Dimond Center mall closed its doors Saturday because of city budget cuts. The South Anchorage branch had been open for 33 years and one day.

City spokeswoman Sarah Erkmann says the library department will see an overall 1.4 percent budget increase despite staffing reductions and the branch closure. That's because of wage and benefit increases next year.
