This photograph once hung in the Assembly Chambers and is labeled "Yees Gaa Nalx (Chief Kowee)". However, prominent members of the local Native community, Ed and Cecilia Kunz, advised the museum in the early 1980s that this is actually a photograph of Cecilia's grandfather, also named Yees Gaa Nalx. He was among the Native leaders who asked that a Russian Orthodox church be built in Juneau. His Christian name was Demitri, and his wife's name was Elizabeth.
