2nd new fire station this month in Wasilla

Posted: Tuesday, December 14, 2010

WASILLA - The Central Mat-Su Fire Department has opened its second new station this month in Wasilla.

Station 66 opened Saturday on Fairview Loop. It follows the opening the previous weekend of Station 63 on Horizon Drive. The district now has 10 stations.

Chief James Steele says the new stations improve coverage and reduce response times to fires and other emergencies.

KTUU reports the fire department responded last year to about 4,000 calls.

The new stations are located in one of the fastest-growing areas of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
