ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage water and sewer utility is asking state regulators to approve a rate increase next month that would raise bills for single-family homes by nearly $8.
The Anchorage Water and Wastewater Utility is asking for an 8 percent increase for water services and a 15 percent increase for wastewater services to pay for $60 million in facility upgrades that were completed in 2009.
The Anchorage Daily News reports the Regulatory Commission of Alaska will decide on the increase by the end of the month.
It won't be the last increase. Utility planners have told the Anchorage Assembly it will need to push up bill almost $40 higher than current rates by 2016 to pay for improvements.
