Cyril George, Jr.
Juneau resident Cyril George Jr., died Dec. 12, 1999, in Juneau.
He was born Jan. 4, 1955, in Juneau. His Tlingit name was SaaXaa, and he was a member of the Eagle Kogwanton clan of the Box House, Kook Hit, of Sitka.
He attended Angoon Public School and Chemawa Indian School in Oregon. He married Darlene Nelson George of Juneau Sept. 14, 1989. He worked as a building custodian and he enjoyed sketching and painting and woodwork.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian George, his grandparents Lilly and Willis George and his great aunt Emma Hamberg.
He is survived by his wife Darlene Nelson George of Juneau, children Yvette Jamestown, Trina Singson of Angoon, Christopher Jim, Martin George, Keoko Nelson and Kirstie George of Juneau, parents Cyril and Judy George of Juneau, his wife's parents Norman and Geraldine Nelson of Juneau, brothers Richard, Jeff, Byron and Joe George and sister Roberta Hunter, aunts and uncles Lucy DeAsis of Juneau, Verna Johnson of Angoon, Lydia George of Angoon, Peter George of Sitka, William John, Sr. of Angoon, Martha Nelson of Angoon and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Tlingit and Haida Community Center in Juneau, with memorial services 7 p.m. Saturday in Angoon and funeral services at 10 a.m. Sunday in Angoon.
Pallbearers will be Norman Nelson, Jr., D.J. Williams. Donald Gregory, Davy Moore, Rudy Walker Sr., Jim Brown, Gabriel George, Rick Paulo, Roy Dennis Jr., Jimmie and Joshua Zeller, Jerome, Arthur and Randy Dennis and Rick Vavelis; in Angoon they will be John Hunter, Donald Johnson, Willie Jack Jr., Jimmie George Jr., Pete McCluskey, Jr., William Hunter, Scott Hunter, Woody and Bud George, Ed Jack and Gary Edwin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Bennett Sr., Joe Nakamura, Charles Gamble, Charles Williams, Kenneth James, Bob Allen, John Martin, Dean George, Dan Johnson, Jr., Garfield George, Ed Gamble, Alan Zuboff, Kevin O'Brien, Edwell John and Harold Demmert.
