Juneau Parks and Recreation Saturday hike: Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Salmon Creek Trailhead, which is behind the Alaska Electric, Light and Power Company powerhouse, 2.5 miles north of Juneau off Egan Drive (accessible from northbound lanes only). The hike is a moderate, seven-mile round trip with 1,100-foot elevation gain. The group will decide whether to continue the hike beyond the dam. Juneau Parks and Recreation mini's swimming program: Meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, at Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool. This program is for children ages 5-7 who are able to demonstrate at least advanced preschool or Level II beginning swimming skils. Eaglecrest Ski Area Christmas Eve celebration: Meet at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 24, at the Eaglecrest Ski Area day lodge, with Santa Claus arriving about 6 p.m. Activities include ornament decorating, holiday music and a torchlight parade. Celebration will take place snow or no snow. To reserve a gift from Santa for your child, sign up at the Eaglecrest office downtown or at the ski school at Eaglecrest Ski Area (fee is $4). Mighty Mite youth ski team registration: Registration is open for this winter's Mighty Mite ski team program for skiers ages 6-12 years old. The lessons at Eaglecrest Ski School focus on skier technique and introduce the children to racing. The 10-week program features Saturday lessons from 9:30 a.m. until noon starting on Jan. 8, and includes four optional race days. The cost is $105 for the lessons, plus $25 for a United States Ski Association membership and $20 per family for Juneau Ski Club membership. Juneau Parks and Recreation youth indoor soccer: Coaches are needed for the 2001 Youth Indoor Soccer League, which begins in early January and continues through mid-March. Each team receives three preseason practices, plus one practice and one Saturday game each week during the season. Game and practice schedules vary depending on the division. Coaching opportunities are available in nearly every division, age 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15 and 16-17.
