I read with great interest the latest move by Juneau city officials to change your police department's shifts. As you may recall, former Anchorage Mayor Mystrom did this in Anchorage with the police department and it resulted in a lawsuit against the city costing roughly $4 million. This aside, the effects it had on the police department and it's officers has been irreversible.
As an Anchorage police officer employed at the time, I can tell you that morale was at an all-time low and those effects are far-reaching. To this day there is still a great deal of animosity towards the administration and city officials for violating our union arbitrated agreement. The city of Juneau would be well-advised to do the research before making an uninformed decision.
