I appreciates the Empire article with pictures of the Thunder Mountain High School basketball team and Girl Scout Troop working on projects to help those in need.
It is very heart-warming to see that some Juneau youth are not so "bored that they have to turn to drugs." These young people and many others, I am sure, use their spare time to help others in the community who are in need.
Young people, if you have so much time on your hands that you are bored and find yourself getting into trouble, I would encourage you to call one of the many agencies in town that are working hard to make things better for the needy in our community.
The Salvation Army will be wrapping Christmas gifts soon. St. Vincent de Paul's and the Glory Hole will be packing boxes of food. The Southeast Alaska Food Bank could probably use some help stocking their shelves. These are just a few example, and I am sure there are many more places your volunteer services could be used if you check with someone at your school. Go for it!
