FAIRBANKS - The Fairbanks City Council has reversed a decision to raise vehicle bonds by $500 for drunken driving violations.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports the bonds, like bail, allow a defendant to retrieve his or her vehicle while awaiting trial.
First-time offenders pay $500, while those with prior offenses pay an amount based on the age of the car.
A resolution approved Monday followed a proposal by councilman Chad Roberts to lower the impound fee to $500 after it had been raised to $1,000.
Robert said the increase was too big a jump.
