Dana Owen lifts packages to be mailed Monday at the post office in the Federal Building downtown. Monday was expected to be the busiest day of the year for the U.S. Postal Service, according to postal officials. The local post office received 35,858 pounds of incoming mail over the weekend and shipped out 30,401 pounds of mail.
Postal carrier Melinda Tong loads priority packages to be delivered Monday on her Mendenhall Valley route. Her run was an extra one solely for packages because of the high volume of mail during the holiday season.
