JUNEAU - State health and Juneau school officials are offering whooping cough vaccines today and Wednesday at two area middle schools.
A spike in pertussis cases, also known as whooping cough, has pressed officials into making the vaccines available to students, parents and staff.
Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory disease. Since July there have been more than 80 cases reported. That's compared to just one case during the same period last year.
They are available to anyone 10 years old and older.
Vaccines will be available today, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Floyd Dryden Middle School, and Wednesday, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School.
