Local artist's work missing from studio

Posted: Thursday, December 16, 2010

Four paintings by local artist Phoebe Rohrbacher were reported missing from the artist's studio, located in the Simpson building downtown, sometime last week. The alleged theft is thought to have occured between Thursday evening and Sunday afternoon. The paintings were discovered to be missing on Sunday.

Other items in the studio, including multiple iPods, a digital camera and other electronic items, remained untouched.

Rohrbacher, this year's Rasmuson Emerging Artist Award recipient, said the theft of her upcoming work is ironic, as the theme of the show involves the idea of loss, especially the loss of something irreplaceable.

The missing work was intended to appear in the artist's solo exhibition, scheduled to be held in February 2011 at the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.

An investigation is underway. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Juneau Police Department.
