City discourages Twin Lakes ice skating

JUNEAU -- The City and Borough of Juneau is discouraging the use of Twin Lakes for ice skating and noting it does not monitor ice conditions there. Skating, walking, pulling sleds or riding bicycles on any body of water, including Twin Lakes, is done at one's own risk.

Parents asked to notify schools of absences

JUNEAU -- The holidays may be here, but there are classes this week and parents need to let schools know about their children's absences, according to the Juneau School District.

From Monday through Wednesday, parents whose children are ill should call their schools regarding absences. The district said this saves attendance monitors many phone calls and helps insure the safety of the children.

Man injured in accident on Mt. Jumbo

JUNEAU -- A man was injured in a three-wheeler accident after 4 p.m. Saturday about one mile up the trail on Mt. Jumbo. The people accompanying the injured person hiked out in the dark and summoned emergency personnel, according to dispatch at Capital City Fire & Rescue. The victim had a possible back injury.

At 6 p.m., two rescue teams reached the victim, 39, and brought him down on a litter. His condition was not known Saturday evening.
