Choate at Harvard

Jon Michael Choate enrolled at Harvard College on Sept. 8. Choate, who graduated from Seabury Hall, is the son of Mark and Sun Choate of Juneau. He was chosen from approximately 21,000 applicants.

Tillinghast performs

Jeffrey Tillinghast, senior at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash., played the baritone saxophone as part of the Whitman Jazz Ensemble I's fall concert on Oct. 24. The ensemble played pieces by Bret Zcacek, Peter Chapman and Paul McKee. Tillinghast is the son of Jon and Deborah Tillinghast of Juneau.

Merit candidates

Kayleigh Allen, Robin Grayson and Andrew Pendleton, seniors at Juneau-Douglas High School, and home school student Nellie Olson were among 16,000 semifinalists in the nation to become National Merit Scholars. These academically talented students are now competing for some 8,000 Merit Scholarship awards, worth $32 million.
