Basketball tourney to be held Dec. 27-30
Princess Cruises 14th Annual Capital City Classic Basketball Tournament will be held Dec. 27-30 at the Juneau-Douglas High School main gym. Passes are available for sale at the high school through Friday, Dec. 17, and can be purchased at the gym door. The pass is $25 for six sessions.
Princess Cruises and Juneau-Douglas High School are holding its annual Capital City Classic Raffle to win a seven-day cruise in the Caribbean or Mexican Riviera for two, plus $500. Drawing to be held Dec. 30 in the JDHS main gym (people need not be present to win). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the high school through Friday, Dec. 17, or at the Capital City Classic Games.
Candlelight service set for Glory Hole
A candlelight memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Glory Hole in memory of homeless people who have died recently.
Gardener certification program to be offered
The Southeast Alaska Master Gardeners, in conjunction with the University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, are offering the Master Gardener Certification Program on Jan. 18 through Feb. 5 in Juneau.

Alaska State Museum closed for holidays
The Alaska State Museum will be closed Dec. 24-25 for the Christmas holiday and also on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 for the New Year. The museum will be open to the public Tuesday through Thursday, Dec. 28-30. Following the New Year, the galleries will reopen on Jan. 4.
Four special exhibitions are on view: solo artist exhibitions by Anchorage photographer Matt Johnson and Anchorage textile artist Susan Schapira; the 30th annual "All Alaska Juried Art Exhibition," which closes Jan. 8; and "Baby, It's Cold Outside," a look at some of the chillier items from the museum's permanent collection.
