Assembly drops bar 'safety hour' proposal

ANCHORAGE - The Anchorage Assembly has dropped a proposal to extend bar closing times by one hour.

Bars would not have been allowed to sell alcohol during that extra hour. Rather, it would have given patrons time to sober up while spreading out the demand for taxi cabs.

The city's Public Safety Advisory Committee said the idea should be dropped until it's more thoroughly researched.
