Word of Mouth

Word of Mouth gives readers a forum to express opinions on a variety of issues by telephone. Calls must be limited to one minute and we reserve the right to edit calls for clarity, length and libel. The number to call in 586-4636. Then press 8255 to leave your message.

I, too, enjoyed the little Christmas tree across from IFred Meyer, but I have one suggestion. Perhaps we could make the decorations edible so that the wildlife can enjoy it as well.

Zach Gordon Youth Center manager Wendie Marriott is leaving to take a job with the Parks and Recreation Department in Unalaska. She will be sorely missed. If you know this long-time Juneau resident, give her a call to wish her well and thank her for her many contributions over the years to our community's recreation programs.

I would like to thank the people who took in my dog last night on Long Run Drive after he wandered off. I appreciate it that he was safe.

Dog owners out on the Airport Dike and Brotherhood Park trails please use the baggies to remove your dog's deposits. Your thoughtfulness will be appreciated by all trail users. (Another caller expressed a similar view.)

I just finished reading Sunday's editorial about Justice Rabinowitz's ruling on the Open Meetings Act, and it's outstanding. It's good to see the newspaper supporting the citizens of the city. (Another caller expressed a similar view.)

Assistant District Attorney Sue McLean gave credit to the JPD for their fine police work. We should not overlook the outstanding work done by McLean and her office.

I object to the plan to close off the old highway by the totem pole at Auke Rec. It is not safe for long school buses to try to turn around on the campground road. The Forest Service, State and City need to figure out how to maintain the recreational use of the Auke Rec area.

I don't agree with Mark Farmer, but I feel pretty good that he lives in this town and runs for office because he says what he's thinking. If Gore had gone to Nader like Sally Smith went to Farmer, Bush wouldn't have won.

If you give people like Mark Farmer an inch, he's going to take a mile.

Al Gore lost the election because he needed three more electoral votes. In other words, Al Gore lost the election because he lost in Alaska. If he hadn't been so dogmatic about keeping ANWR closed, he might be the president-elect right now.

Now that George Bush is the president-elect, I hope the Democrats show him the same amount of respect Bill Clinton was shown by the Republicans.

Enough about the votes already. I demand a recount on Proposition Five.

People frequently can't get connected to the GCI Internet connection. There's often something wrong with their main server. I wish GCI could do something so that we could go on the Internet when we want to.

To the pilot flying low and slow over the valley Saturday afternoon and early Saturday evening stop it. You're disturbing the peace.

Thank you to Don Abel for helping bring an extra special dose of Christmas spirit to a local family. With your help, our friends made it into their new home in time for Christmas. They are together, healthy and happy for the holidays.
