Princess Cruises/Powerade Capital City Classic - The Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls basketball teams will host the annual Capital City Classic. The tournament will feature teams from Wasilla, Oregon and Kylsith in Austrailia.

Tornados Youth Wrestling Club registration - The Tornados Youth Wrestling Club will be starting its season on Jan. 9. Registration for the club will run through Feb. 27. Tornados Wrestling is for boys and girls ages 5-18 who are interested in learning wrestling skills. New wrestlers will learn basic skills while veteran wrestlers will building on their basic skills and prepare for competition. Juneau Lions Gold Medal Tournament tickets on sale - Season passes for the 60th Annual Gold Medal Tournament are on sale at Hearthside Books at the Nugget Mall. Juneau Douglas Ice Association registration - The JDIA is accepting registrations on a limited basis for the upcoming Winter/Spring youth hockey season. The sean runs Jan. 9-April 15. Juneau Parks and Recreation coed volleyball signups - The Juneau Parks and Recreation Adult Coed Volleyball team manager's packets are available at the Parks and Rec office, located on the second floor of the Municipal Building, Room 218. Team registration will be conducted on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 5 p.m. in the assembly chambers, located on the main floor of the Municipal Building. Late registration wil be taken Friday, Jan. 13 at the Parks and Rec office. There will be a $10 late fee. Juneau Parks and Recreation youth basketball coaches needed - The Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteer coaches and paid referees for the Youth Basketball program. HoopTime Basketball Registration - Registration materials will be sent via email for returning players on or about Dec. 1. Registration materials will also be available at the HoopTime Web Site at www.juneau.com/hooptime/index.html. Open registration will begin Dec. 17 at the Nugget Mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will continue through Dec. 30. Juneau Parks and Recreation: Youth Basketball Registration - Youth basketball registration begins Saturday, Nov. 5 and continues at the P&R main office or at the Zach Gordon Youth Center through Nov. 21. There will be space-available registration after Nov. 21 is teams are not full. Community Schools Open Adult Gym time - There will be open adult gym at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School for soccer on Fridays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. For basketball and volleyball, there will be open gym time on Sundays from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. There is a $5 fee and players should bring their own soccer balls, basketballs or volleyballs. Yukon River Quest - registration - Registration has begun for the 2006 Yukon River Quest canoe and kayak race. The 460-mile race spans the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City in Yukon Territory, Canada. Deadline for entry is May 26. There is a limit of 70 canoe and kayak teams and only 25 solo kayak teams. Entry fees are $700 (Canadian) for tandem canoes and kayaks, $400 for solo kayaks and $200 for voyager teams. Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays through April 28. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee or punchcards for $10 or $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th St. in Douglas. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. The cost to rent the court is $20 per hour, which must be paid at the time of rental. This is for adult activities only. Info: Juneau Community Schools, 463-1717.
Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
