Ketchikan reviewing cruise ship fund usage

Posted: Friday, December 19, 2008

KETCHIKAN - Borough officials approved just one project with money collected from a cruise ship commercial passenger fund, leaving others on the table for a January meeting.

The only project approved so far was a $150,000 appropriation for the Newtown commercial property owners for Water Street improvements.

This means the Ketchikan-Gateway Borough Assembly will hold a special meeting to discuss various project requests.

Some of them include:

• $500,000 for the First City Players performing arts center;

• $145,500 to Ketchikan Public Art Works for public art;

• $100,000 for the Southern Southeast Emergency Response Training Center;

• $27,866 for the Ketchikan International Airport ferry operating costs.
