A man suffered an acute medical condition and later died while driving Saturday morning in a Lemon Creek trailer park, neat the Glacier Highway access, according to a release from the Juneau Police Department.
A 911 call alerted JPD to the incident, as the condition caused the man to lose consciousness and collide with a trailer. The call came from a passenger in the vehicle. The passenger was unhurt, as were the occupants of the trailer. The trailer sustained an estimated $5,000 in damage, and the vehicle was totaled.
JPD responded, as did the Alaska State Troopers and Capital City Fire and Rescue. The driver was taken to the emergency room at Bartlett Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
JPD notified the driver's next of kin and identified the driver as Harold Shakespeare, 76.
