Margaret Thomas of Juneau graduated in August from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign with a Master of Science.

Evan Twelker of Juneau recently began his first year at Middlebury College.

Shannon Smith of Gastineau Elementary School and Eric Stewart, a home-schooled student, won the recent drawing for completing the 2000 Gallery Walk Survey at Portfolio Arts. Youth participants selected a piece of art and checked off the media, description, and stated whether the piece was representational, traditional or abstract.

Connie Godwin, U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens' press secretary, who will retire at the end of the year, was recently honored by the U.S. Olympic Committee Board of Directors. The organization thanked Godwin for her support of the USOC, and her work with members and athletes through the years.

Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium (SEARHC) has been recognized by the federal government for their work in reducing substance abuse among Native Americans. Wilbur Brown of the Bill Brady Healing Center and Albert Nels of the Raven's Way Program traveled to Washington, D.C., to accept the honors from Attorney General Janet Reno on behalf of SEARHC.
