Post offices open extra hours this week

Juneau post offices will be open special hours until Dec. 24.

The Mendenhall Post Office retail counter will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. The parcel pick-up door will be open 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday. The box lobby will be open 24 hours Monday through Friday, until 10 p.m. Saturday, and will open at 8 a.m. Sunday.

The Federal Building station's retail counter will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and will be closed on Sunday. The parcel pick up door will be open 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Saturday and will be closed Sunday. The box lobby will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The Auke Bay station's retail counter will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and will be closed Sunday. The box lobby will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and will be closed Sunday.

The Douglas Station's retail counter will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and will be closed Sunday. The box lobby will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and will be closed Sunday.

The Contract Station on South Franklin in downtown Juneau will open its retail counter from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

State takes over boat registrations

As of Jan. 1, 2001, the state's Division of Motor Vehicles will take over boat registration from the United States Coast Guard.

World War II veterans sought for registry list

Anyone who served in World War II or supported the troops on the homefront is eligible to enroll in the World War II Registry of Remembrances.

To register, visit Alaskan Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday, or contact any local veteran's organization.

Names of family members or friends may also be registered at no charge. The Registry will be on permanent display in Washington, D.C.

UAS offers nurse training

University of Alaska Southeast is offering two Certified Nurses Aide training sections starting January 30, 2001. Applications can be picked up at UAS campuses in Juneau, Sitka or Ketchikan. For details, call the Juneau career education center at 465-8775 or 465-8770.

In addition, applications for admission into the Weber State Licensed Practical Nursing program in Juneau are due March 1. The program is the only nursing degree available in Southeast; those hoping to apply must have taken classes in chemistry, human anatomy and physiology.
