In season: Deer (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), mountain goat (Aug.-Dec., depending on area), wolf (Aug.-April), grouse (Aug.-May), ptarmigan (Aug.-May), ducks, geese, brants, swans, snipe, crane (Sept.-Dec.), coyote (Sept.-April), hare (Sept.-April) and brown bear (Sept.-Dec.)

Dec. 22: Ski and showshoe hike in the Dredge Lake area, Saturday Parks and Recreation hike. Meet at 10 a.m. at the trailhead by the mendenhall River Bridge. 2-4 mile roundtrip. No dogs or firearms.

Dec. 22: Juneau Gun Club Turkey Shoot, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the gun club. Call 789-9844 for details.

Dec. 22: Eaglecrest Snowflake Festival starts.

Dec. 24-28: Ski & Snowboard School Holiday Camps Session No. 1, Eaglecrest.

Dec. 24: Annual Eaglecrest Christmas Eve Celebration with torchlight parade, ornament and snowflake decorating, holiday music and a visit from Santa.

Dec. 25: Eaglecrest open, with lifts starting at 10 a.m.

Dec. 26: Trap shooting at the Juneau Gun Club, 5:30-9 p.m. Call 789-9844 for details.

Dec. 26-29: Level I backcountry avalanche course, $295 adults, $220 students. Call Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center, 586-5699, for details.

Dec. 30: High power rifle meet at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, 9 a.m. registration, shoot at 10 a.m.

Ongoing: Trap shooting at the Juneau Gun Club, 5:30-9 p.m. Wednesdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays. Call 789-9844 for details.

Ongoing: Adult hike Wednesdays, usually starting around 9-10 a.m. Family hike Saturdays, usually starting around 9-10 a.m. No dogs or firearms please. Call the hike hotline at 586-0428 for details on the meeting place and route.
