Former Juneau resident Pavia Wald died Dec. 9, 2005, at her home in California. She was afflicted with the debilitating disease amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
She returned to Monterey, Calif., to be with family and friends after spending 11 years in Alaska. She enjoyed the natural world, mountaintops, ice fields, running rivers and slopes covered in wildflowers or snow.
Her friends and family said she "lived a rich, beautiful life, and her strong, graceful, and caring spirit touched everyone blessed to have known her."
She is survived by her father, David Wald; her sister, Adrienne Wald; and Keith Bunney and Bill Price.
A service will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Dec. 20, at the Big Sur River Inn in California.
