I witnessed the fire on Mountain Side Estates. I was completely impressed by the response of Juneau Fire & Rescue. They thought of everything, all the way down to protecting the homeowners' belongings with tarps and even calling a sanding truck for the water running down the street in case it froze. They were polite and courteous to the homeowners in the neighborhood. They deserve the respect of this community.
Congratulations to the Hoonah High School girls volleyball team, which took second place at the state volleyball tournament last weekend.
I suggest we change the name of the Spam Can to the Oil Can.
If President-elect Bush asks Gov. Knowles to become energy secretary, will Gov. Knowles accept only if he is allowed to remain in Juneau or Anchorage 70 percent of the time?
I am now a reformed non-smoker but I still feel you non-smokers should get a grip. Quit trying to make our state like the rest of the lower 48. This is, or was, the last frontier. Why do you want to change it?
Non-smoking areas far outnumber the few smoking areas left in Juneau. We don't need a minority of radical fanatics jamming more laws down our throats.
I think it's a really good idea to give money to the Humane Society, specifically for the spay and neuter coupons. We need to keep the population of cats and dogs to a very reasonable level. If you give money to the Humane Society they can give it to people who can't afford to can get their animals spayed or neutered. This is a very good Christmas present for our community.
