Thanks from swim and dive team

Sound off on the important issues at

The Juneau Douglas High School swimming and diving team, parents, and coaching staff would like to express our gratitude for the generous support that the Juneau community has given our team.

First, we would like to thank everyone who has purchased a Christmas tree this year. Every year we purchase trees through the generous assistance of Fred Meyer they are then trucked from Oregon, and barged on Alaska Marine Line to Juneau. Fred Meyer helps facilitate our tree sales on their parking lot and by providing electricity for our Christmas lights. Swimmers and divers, plus parents volunteer their time selling the trees. These sales help pay for travel to swim and dive meets and other team expenses.

As with all of the sports and youth activities in Southeast Alaska, fund raising is critical to the success of the team. It has been our philosophy that our swimmers and divers should earn the necessary monies by providing a service to our community. For our kids, fund raising is a year-round activity. Some of our many fund raising activities include a Parents Night Out at Riverbend School, baking and selling holiday cookie boxes, sponsoring a dance at the high school, selling concessions for basketball games, and various projects for homeowners.

The swim and dive team would like to express its appreciation to the staff and management at Fred Meyer for their assistance in facilitating our Christmas Tree sales. A most hearty thanks goes to Alaska Marine Lines, especially to Kevin Anderson, vice president sales and marketing, Seattle, for their extremely generous sponsorship and donation of the barge shipping costs for the Christmas trees. It would not be possible for our team to do this without you.

Many of our swimmers train year-round. The swim and dive season runs from the second week in August through early November. During this time, they are in the pool between 18 and 21 hours per week, with morning practices starting at 5 a.m. Their positive and winning attitude; dedication and hard work are evident in their numerous regional and state titles and in their personal best times. Support and commitment from our community is vital for each swimmer and diver's success. All we can offer to each and every one of you is a sincere and heart-felt thank you for a successful season.

Thanks to Juneau Pioneer Home

The family of Evelyn Hamlin would like to say a million thanks to the Juneau Pioneer Home staff for their love, care, and support for the past 14 years; and especially for these last few days with Evelyn's passing. The love was felt from all directions - CNAs, nursing, administration, support, kitchen, maintenance, activities, physical therapy and pets. Her final days were difficult, yet filled with magical comforting memories. Folks, it's a wonderful place to live and we were blessed that this was home for our mom. Thank you! We love each of you!

Arlene Buonamassa and Stan Hamlin, Jr.

Thanks for support for kids' holiday party

The REACH Infant Learning Program and Bartlett Beginnings infant and toddler group held a successful holiday party on Dec. 8 at Macaulay Salmon Hatchery (DIPAC). Fun was had by 60 young children and their families. Each child received a book from Santa. We want to thank REACH Inc., Bartlett Regional Hospital and Rainforest Floors, for their generous support. Special thanks to Heidi Johnson and Kathy Fanning, for providing the live music.

Thanks, youth indoor soccer coaches

Thanks to the 2007 Youth Indoor Soccer coaches your outstanding support.

Juneau Parks and Recreation would like to thank the many volunteers who coached during the 2007 Youth Indoor Soccer season. We greatly appreciate the time and effort that these individuals contributed to make the season great.

Without their enthusiasm, creativity and guidance, it would not be possible to provide quality youth sports programs. We do not always hear about the extra effort from other team helpers so if your name is not on this list please know that your support is valued.
