KENAI - The congressional office in Kenai will close next year to the disappointment of Mayor Pat Porter.
Porter, in a letter to Sen. Lisa Murkowski, said the city is concerned about the upcoming closure of the office. The office in the Trading Bay office park across from the Kenai Courthouse is expected to shut its doors after Dec. 29.
Murkowski's office said the decision to close the Kenai office was made following U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens' re-election loss. However, Murkowski spokesman Mike Brumas says the senator is committed to maintaining a strong presence on the peninsula.
Murkowski said she does not intend the closure to be permanent.
