Police responded to a report of an armed robbery early Sunday morning in the Mendenhall Valley.

An employee of the Valley Tesoro reported the store had been robbed at gunpoint at about 4:15 a.m. A man entered the store, pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded money, the employee told police.

The suspect walked away toward the area of Safeway. Police said they could not immediately locate him in the area. They did not disclose how much money was reported stolen.

The suspect is a slender man about 6 feet tall, police said. He was last seen wearing a ski mask, black jacket, black pants and white shoes.

Police ask anyone with information about Sunday's incident to contact 586-0600.

Sgt. Paul Hatch said armed robberies are not common in Juneau but a similar incident most recently occurred in March, at the Fred Meyer gas station.
