Fort Richardson soldier dies in Iraq

ANCHORAGE - Another Fort Richardson paratrooper has died in Iraq.

The Army on Thursday said the paratrooper was killed at 10:40 am. Wednesday, or 10:40 p.m. Alaska time, when his dismounted patrol was struck by a roadside bomb near Jurf al Sakhar south of Baghdad.

The soldier's name was not released. His next of kin was notified.

The paratrooper was assigned to the 4th Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

Four other paratroopers from the same unit were injured in the incident, including three seriously.

All four wounded paratroopers were evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq for treatment.

The dead soldier is the sixth Fort Richardson soldier killed in Iraq this month.
