NOAA observer fined for sexual harassment

KODIAK - A NOAA Fisheries groundfish observer has been fined $1,000 after admitting he created a hostile work environment for another observer.

Benjamin Michlig also can't work as a NOAA observer for 10 years.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror reported that Michlig acknowledged sexually harassing the observer while the two shared a Kodiak bunkhouse in September 2008. Observers collect catch and bycatch data from U.S. commercial fishing and processing vessels, providing real-time scientific data.
