USFS workers donate food, gifts to Juneau families

JUNEAU - Three Juneau-area families will have Christmas dinner and gifts for everyone in the family, thanks to the employees of the Forest Service regional office.

Gifts and food items donated by the employees were collected under a Christmas tree in the region's main conference room in the Federal Building. More than 200 pounds of food and gifts stacked 3-feet-deep around the tree were delivered to the Juneau's AWARE women and children's shelter for further distribution to the families.

Food donated for the families made up the ingredients for a holiday dinner: frozen turkeys, fresh apples, oranges, eggs, milk, butter, pie crusts, stuffing mixes, roasting pans, and fresh produce, plus canned and dried foods.

The Wooch Een (Working Together) Committee spearheaded the efforts. The committee focuses the organization's efforts to benefit several charities throughout the year.
