Fond memories of grocery

Letter to the editor

For many years I lived across the street from Family Grocery, and I remember many of the names mentioned in your recent article on its closing.

I raised four boys and, personally, I think I may have kept the store open for a lot of those years. Those of you who have boys know what I'm talking about.

Thinking about the neighborhood store bring back fond memories. The staff was so friendly and helpful. I don't remember everybody's name, but who could forget Donna, Del and Dan?

One incident that immediately comes to mind is one boy (mine, and I won't say which) "forgot" to pay for some candy he pocketed. Del called me and asked if he could take care of it. I told him by all means. Del took the young man in question to the garbage Dumpster and made him thoroughly clean it. If there were any more problems after that, I didn't hear about them.

Oh well, the memories linger on.
