Be careful with Home Depot

As a former resident of Juneau, I suggest taking the cause-and-effect approach before you install Home Depot in your little village. This move to bring Home Depot to Juneau is careless. Consider the ramifications of closing Western Auto, several mom and pop hardware and miscellaneous stores, and Don Abel out the road and possibly Valley Lumber as well.

Home Depot brings higher prices and goods imported from across the seas. There is worry about the transportation security for these import vessels. They won't be using the barge system for deliveries. No, they'll bring in vessels from around the world. You are inviting frightening dimensions to this scenario.

Is this outreach necessary for the wonderful town of Juneau? Give Juneau a break. The tourism is breaking your backs due to the stress on the downtown area. Locals can't even walk on the sidewalks from May to October. Now you want to give away all the hometown stores to experience the feeling of the sale of 10 acres. Think twice before taking away the dignity of Juneau in the face of coming events.
