Wearable Art show planned for Feb. 13 and 14

The Juneau Arts & Humanities Council announces its 10th annual Wearable Arts Extravaganza fundraiser, Cirque de Pluie, (Circus of Rain), a uniquely Alaskan take on Cirque du Soleil (Circus of the Sun). Based on a concept originating in Nelson, New Zealand, the show features artwork specifically created to be worn on the human body. These wearable artworks are displayed by models during a runway show accompanied by music and narration. With special effects lighting and other production surprises, this event goes far beyond a fashion show into a zany, magical mix-up of imagination, humor, beauty, and the fantastic. More than 200 volunteers contribute their time to produce the event, which also includes a silent auction featuring donated artworks and experiences.

There will be two showings: 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. Proceeds from Saturday's show will support the annual JAHC student fine art scholarships and individual artist grants. Sunday's show will support the operating costs of Juneau Arts & Culture Center. Ticket prices are for Saturdays show are $50 for the front row and $25 for general admission; Sunday's show they are $30 for the front row and $20 for general admission.

Flash zone seating is also available for each show. The flash zone indicates front and center cocktail tables that include bar service. Saturday's flash zone seats are $75, Sunday's are $60.

The show is directed and produced by Patricia Hull, with stage layout by Sean Boily of North Wind Architects. Set design and production by Jeremy Bauer and Jason Clifton of Bauer/Clifton Interiors. Multimedia production coordinated by Rik Pruett of KATH TV.
