Tillinghast to perform coffeehouse concert

Juneau-born singer-songwriter Jeff Tillinghast will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Saturday at Valentine's Coffee.

The concert is free, and it will be his first concert of original songs in Juneau in two years. Tillinghast, 22, graduated from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1999 and has been performing throughout the Northwest while majoring in music theory at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. He is recording a CD with Seattle-based drummer and former bandmate Paul Wille and bass player Peter Griffin, another JDHS graduate who is studying at the University of Washington. The as-of-yet-untitled album will be released this spring.

As with many of his shows, this concert will feature Tillinghast on vocals and acoustic guitar. Fans liken his acoustic music to that of Paul Simon, Bruce Springsteen and Dave Matthews.

Hockey group taking applicants for '04 season

The Juneau Adult Hockey Association is now registering players until Jan. 5 for its winter 2004 season, which runs from Jan. 12 through mid-April.

The hockey association is a nonprofit group dedicated to organizing recreational hockey for Juneau's adults at the Treadwell Arena. The association will offer a wide array of co-ed leagues and a women's league open to players 18 years and older. The leagues are designed to match players' skill levels, including beginners.

To register for adult recreational hockey, visit the group's Web site at www.juneauhockey.org. The Web site has information on rules, registration requirements, fees and all the necessary paperwork to register.

The hockey association also would like to congratulate Pat's Douglas Inn and the Treadwell Titans, our tier-one and tier-two champions for the autumn 2003 season. For more registration information, contact Emily at 586-1070.

If you are associated with a high school, university or community youth or environmental group and want your organization to be included in this statewide directory, contact Sarah at zisa@nwf.org or (907) 339-3913. The deadline for submissions is Jan. 15.

Hunters need to turn waterfowl reports

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game would like to remind hunters to drop off or mail in their Mendenhall Wetlands State Game Refuge waterfowl permit report to the Douglas ADF&G office. This is the first year hunters have had to complete this permit report, so please be aware that it needs to be returned as soon as possible.
