Find a mentor

If you're looking for a way to raise your profile at your new job, find a fellow employee - preferably one whose job is a level or two above yours - to act as your advocate. "The fastest way to become a known entity in your company is to find a co-worker as a mentor who will do more than just show you the ropes," says Joanne Cini, author of "Kingmaker: Be the One Your Company Wants to Keep - On Your Terms" (Prentice Hall, $22.95). "He or she will become your advocate to peers, company leaders and perhaps customers as well."
