ANCHORAGE - A woman died in a house fire in the village of Ekwok, about 40 miles northeast of Dillingham in southwestern Alaska.
Alaska State Troopers say 56-year-old Juanita Nelson and her 51-year-old husband Robert Nelson were in the home early Wednesday when the fire broke out. He got out and called for help.
Robert Nelson and a village safety officer attempted a rescue but were driven back by smoke and flames.
Her remains were later found in the burned-out house.
Robert Nelson was treated for injuries at Kanakanak Hospital in Dillingham.
