Holiday Cup 2006 - The Holiday Cup Competitive Indoor Soccer Tournament will be held Dec. 16-31. There are five coed divisions - grades 4-5, middle school, high school ages 16 and under, ages 17-20 and masters division for ages 21 and over. Capital City Classic - The Juneau-Douglas High School boys and girls basketball teams host the annual Capital City Classic. The boys will take on A.B. Miller and Porter Creek while the girls will face Palmer and Troy. The boys and girls Spokane NBC Thunder all-star teams will also compete. The JDHS girls play at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday while the boys take the court at 8 p.m. on Wednesady, Thursday and Saturday. Friday will feature a 3-point and slam dunk competitions.

Juneau Ski Club Alpine Race Coca-Cola Classic - Eaglecrest Ski Area will host the Juneau Ski Club Alpine Race Coca-Cola Classic. There will be two slalom and two giant slalom races.

Juneau Ski Club Alpine Race Series - Eaglecrest Ski Area will host the Millenium Gian Slalom race on Saturday and Sunday.

Women's Indoor Classic Soccer League - The Women's Indoor Classic Soccer League, sponsored by Capital City Soccer League, will start Jan. 9. No experience is necessary and older women and new players are encouraged to play. Teams play Tuesdays at Mt. Jumbo gym. Game time are 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Cost is $30. Tornados Youth Wrestling Club registration - The Juneau Tornados Youth Wrestling Club registration is now though Feb. 28. Tornados wrestling is for boys and girls ages 5-18 interested in learning wrestling skills. Practice for ages 5-12 will begin Jan. 8. Wrestlers 13-and-older should contact coach Bob Koenitzer for times. Adult wrestlers and coaches are welcome and encouraged to participate. The sports of wrestling teaches youth teammwork, goal-setting and self control, as well as promoting physical fitness in a fun and structured environment. Juneau Youth Hockey second season - Juneau Douglas Ice Association youth hockey is opening registration for the second season. The season runs from January to March for the following ages: Mites, 5-8 years old (birth years 1998-2002) and intro to hockey, 4-and-older who are first time players. Co-ed Master's Indoor Soccer Sunday - The Co-Ed Master's Soccer Sundays is for experienced men and women soccer players over the age of 30. There will be no formal teams and no referees. Start Smart Basketball Program - The Start Smart Basketball Program is for boys and girls ages 4-5. It helps develop the basic motor skills necessary to play organized basketball while they work one-on-one and spend quality time with their parents. The program focuses on teaching children and their parents skills in dribbling/ball handling, passing/catch, shooting and running/agility without the threat of competition or the fear of getting hurt. The program is held once a week for six weeks and each week the exercises become increasingly more difficult as the class progresses and the children show improvement. The sessions will be held weekly at a valley site from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning the week of Jan. 15. Fee is $25 and each child will receive a t-shirt, workbook and participant manual. Mt. Jumbo Gym Preschool Open Gym - The Mt. Jumbo Preschool Open Gym is open to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to noon for all children ages 1-6. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at a maximum ration of four children to one adult. Play equipment and tumbling mats are provided. There is a $1 per child cost for the program. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee.
