Recycling, chipping for local relief fund

Posted: Wednesday, December 26, 2001

Waste Management Inc. is offering two ways that local households can recycle and keep the roadsides clean. One benefits the local disaster relief fund of the American Red Cross.

Recycling aluminum cans benefits the Red Cross. The second method is participating in Christmas tree chipping on Jan. 5, said Glenn Thompson, district manager for Waste Management.

Trees must be transported to 5600 Tongass Court between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Jan. 5 for the free chipping. "We have extended the can drive through the chipping event," Thompson said. Trees should be free of all decorations, tinsel, stands, wires and nails. The chips will be used as mulch for the community garden plots in the Mendenhall Valley.
