Two generations later, Marcella Stutte, center, shows daughter, Kaysa Korpela, left, and granddaughter, Kelsey Korpela, the dress she chose in 1959 to wear to the statehood festivities and inauguration of William Egan, the first governor of Alaska. This tea-length, black velvet dress is V-backed with organza and black lace on the bottom. Now, 50 years later, it just might be in style. The 50th anniversary of Alaska Statehood will be celebrated Jan. 3 at Centennial Hall. Tickets are available at Hearthside Books.
