Neighbors mailbox: Thanks for sponsoring the charity walk and picking 'our' tree

Posted: Friday, December 26, 2008

On behalf of the Gastineau Humane Society Board of Directors and staff and all animals everywhere, we wish to thank the Downtown Business Association for sponsoring the 12 Trees of Christmas Charity Walk. Thank you to Annie Kaill's for picking us as their charity and for designing such an awesome tree. And thank you to everyone who voted for "our" tree.

As each of you are keenly aware, the economic situation we all find ourselves in is difficult. Unfortunately as often happens in a crisis of any kind, animals sometimes get lost by the wayside. That is not the case in Juneau. The money GHS received will go into our 2nd Chance Fund. This fund is dedicated to providing animals the extra veterinary and personal care they need to lead the life they deserve. Thanks to all of you, 2009 will be a happier healthier year for Juneau's deserving pets.

I would also like to take a moment to thank the merchants of the DBA and all local merchants for all you do throughout the year to make this such a wonderful place to live. Without you many of us would simply not be able to exist and provide the services we do.

So thank you. Believe me when I say you are very much appreciated.

On a personal note, I would also like to thank Hoppy the Hanukkah Hare for attending the check presentation ceremony with me. Rudolf was (as I am sure you can imagine) busy. So, he subcontracted to Hoppy to help out at events such as this during the holiday season. Our hope is that in 2009 we can all work together for the greater good like Rudolf and Hoppy have been able to do.
