Student Symphony holds auditions, open reading session Jan. 8

The Juneau Student Symphony is holding auditions until Jan. 14. Auditions are for the winter concert season for all orchestral instruments - flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon, French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, keyboard, harp, percussion, violin, viola, cello and bass.

There will be a free and open reading session for all interested and returning musicians from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, downtown at 10th Street and Glacier Avenue. Repertoire for this concert includes the New World Symphony, Mars from the Planets, Carnival of the Animals and a violin concerto.

Silverbow seeks art for new Back Room Gallery, opening Jan. 9

Silverbow Inn and Bakery is seeking artwork to display in its new Back Room Gallery.

Since Dec. 25, the Back Room has been under renovation. The entire facility will be closed through Jan. 1. The bakery will reopen Jan. 2.

The grand reopening of the Back Room Gallery will be Jan. 9. Movies will commence on Jan. 22.
