Thanks for contributing to our 17th annual pie auction on Nov. 22

The residents and staff of the Juneau Pioneers' Home wish to extend our sincere thanks to the Glacier Valley Rotary Club.
On Nov. 22, at our 17th annual Pie Auction, the Glacier Valley Rotary raised more than $6,000 in support of the Juneau Pioneers' Home. All of the proceeds of this event go to enhance the quality of life for our residents. Special outings, birthday celebrations, gardening and pet supplies, Bingo prizes, recreational and arts supplies are just a few of the ways these funds will be used throughout the year.
The Juneau Pioneers' Home is an Eden Alternative home, where we strive to create a loving community that is both vibrant and engaging. The generosity of the Glacier Valley Rotary has made such a difference in the lives of our residents. We're immeasurably grateful for their support and offer them our heartfelt thanks for helping us to create an environment that is truly "home."
Special thanks to Colleen Sullivan, Kevin Sullivan and Virginia Smiley, whose energy, enthusiasm and creativity, fueled the success of this years' auction.

Thanks for helping at our Dec. 2 Academic Decathalon tournament
Juneau-Douglas High School Academic Decathlon team members would like to express our deep gratitude to: Jennifer Axmann, Ruth Case, Karen Doxey, Matt Fishel, Robin Gilchrist, Debbie Hemenway, Sandi Hughes, Jane Ginter, Gunnar Miller, Sylvia Kidd, Betsy Longebaugh, Susan Oelklaus, Bob Piorkowski, Laury Scandling, Ed Schoenfeld, Bret Schmiege, Rita Shannon, Doreen Shaw, Kay Smith, Loren Stanton, and Dean VanDusseldorp for judging our speech and interview events. The heavy snowfall and unplowed roads did not deter them from helping us out on Saturday morning, Dec. 2, during our Southeast Regional AcaDeca Tournament. We could not hold these crucial events without your help.
Thanks to our essay grader who singlehandedly read and scored 50 papers in record time. The kids appreciated your feedback. Thanks to all my decathlon parents past and present who are always so supportive of our team and who helped house team members from visiting southeast schools. Special thanks to Karen Boddy for making sure all our buses were in line, Jane Ginter for all her technology expertise and inexhaustible all-around assistance. The students spent two days testing on this year's theme, China and Its Influence in the World, and poring over the subject of Climatology, a very timely topic considering our current weather. The top two overall highest scoring students were both from JDHS: Andrea Axmann (first) and Maggie Schoenfeld (second).
We hope to see you again next year.
