Sons of Norway donates to Juneau Soccer Club

Posted: Wednesday, December 28, 2005

The Sons of Norway, Svalbard Lodge of Juneau, recently gave a $1,000 donation to the Juneau Soccer Club U-16 team, Juneau Reign. The team is traveling to Norway and Denmark next year to participate in the Norway Cup and the Dana Cup. Teams from the entire world will be represented in the two tournaments as soccer is an international sport. Cultural experiences and sightseeing will round out their trip to the Nordic countries. The Juneau team has been together five years and has played in the Alaska State Cup for the past four years. In 2003 it was the state champion and went on to compete in the Far West Regional Tournament in Washington. The boys are working to raise money for their trip to the Scandinavian countries. At a recent fundraiser, they sold soccer T-shirts and other items. The Svalbard lodge would like to challenge other organizations and businesses to assist the team in their goal of competing in two international soccer tournaments. Call Sue at 789-5751 for more information. Donations can be sent to Juneau Reign Soccer Team, JoAnne Craig, P. O. Box 32166, Juneau, Alaska, 99803.
