FAIRBANKS - A man walked into the Midnight Mine around 1 a.m. Saturday, pulled out a .22-caliber pistol and shot his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend.

Police said suspect Richard R. Blevins, 22, left the bar before law enforcement arrived. Blevins was arrested for attempted murder less than two hours later after a traffic stop at Peger and Phillips Field roads, according to Fairbanks Police Sgt. Robert Thompson.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to the hospital. Thompson did not have an update on the victim's condition.

Midnight Mine bar owner Bob Maloney wasn't at the downtown lounge during the shooting, but said employees and others had told him that the victim was shot in the face and neck area, and was talking before emergency medical workers took him away.
