Longtime Juneau resident Merle Ann Mason died Dec. 21, 2008, in Juneau. She was 79.
She was born Sept. 13, 1929, in Sumas, Wash., to Benjamin and Rose Knight. She attended Mount Baker High School as well as secretarial school in Bellingham, Wash. During her lifetime, she worked as a secretary and administrative assistant.
She moved with her husband and children to Juneau in the spring of 1963.
Her family said she enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting and talking to others about the Bible.
"Her smile and helpfulness brightened the days of everyone who knew her," her family said.
She was preceded in death by her father, Benjamin H. Knight; mother, Rose Schoning; sisters, Florence Setsaa, Mildred Ross, Lorraine Withee and Frances DeWald; brother, William Knight; and grandson, Travis Mason.
She is survived by her husband, Bernard Mason, of Juneau; sister, Naomi Henderson and husband, Myron, of Omak, Wash.; daughters and their spouses, Loretta and Julio Bevegni, Bernice and Williams Chimelir, Joan and Gary Baker, of Juneau, Elisa and Bruce Weathers, of Soldotna, and Evelyn and Glenn Hager, of Puyallup, Wash.; sons and their spouses, Nathan and Mary Mason, of Sutherland, Ore., and Franklin and Evonne Mason, of Juneau; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3, at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 2517 Teslin St., off Atlin Drive in Juneau.
