We need more intelligent letters

Letter to the editor

Posted: Tuesday, December 30, 2003

Let me get this straight: Mr. Edwards in his column on Christmas Eve told anyone who doesn't agree with the Bible to leave Juneau.

Mr. Edwards told anyone who doesn't agree with homosexuality to leave Juneau. Mr. Edwards told anyone who does agree with a game management policy that protects subsistence rights for Native Alaskans to leave Juneau.

I'm shocked. Mr. Edwards is a regular contributor to the Empire and normally writes very insightful and thought-provoking editorials. It never matters what side of the political spectrum you adhere; his opinions are especially thought out and grounded in fact. I'm actually more surprised that our humble daily newspaper would choose to print such an obvious, ignorant rant. If this is the cream of the crop, so to speak, of the letters that hit the editor's desk, then, Juneau, start writing the Empire. Write about anything and everything that concerns you, worries you, bugs you or you think the rest of us should know about. My hope is that we can return to thoughtful and honest editorials that our citizens can respect. Let's not be another "Amateur Hour."
