I agree with the letter about not living in the past. I live in a small community here in Angoon and I agree that Juneau needs a business like Home Depot and Wal-Mart.
For one it would be good for the people that are out there struggling to make ends meet. Everyone out there that is financially set is not thinking about the people who need better jobs and just want to step up the ladder and make more pay to get by. Juneau is a growing city and people just need to accept the change.
We just recently made a large purchase from a local business in Juneau and were treated very badly with no customer service whatsoever. We are very much looking forward to Home Depot and Wal-Mart coming to Juneau so that we will have more of an option when we come to town. There aren't many options in Juneau for what Home Depot has to offer, and I think it would be a good change for Juneau.
Like Tina Rice said "quit living in the past" and grow with it (letters to the editor, Dec. 28). When a bigger business moves into Juneau people have the tendency to make it sound so bad for the community, when in all reality no businesses were affected because of it. When you are in retail, you will always have competition. That is reality.
I for one am looking forward to seeing a Home Depot and Wal-Mart in Juneau. They help out a lot when you have a growing family and don't have much money to spend in such an expensive town.
